More car parking Fore st Would the relocation of the taxi rank to a side street off Fore st,and thereby creating 3 more parking spaces,be a benefit. | Mon 20/12/10 10:07 AM |

The more parking there is for potential shoppers, the better. However,it does not matter how many spaces there are if they are not used correctly. In an 8 hour day a space should be used by 10/12 potential shoppers. But if a car is parked all day then this precludes its use by others and it is likely that the owner of the car is not a shop customer--who shops for 8 hours !!!
The taxi rank is often empty and therefore its relocation with good signage to show its new location should be of benefit. | Posted on Tue 21/12/10 04:38 PM |
The reinstatement of Traffic Wardens/with the repainting of the yellow lines might be the most sensible way to improve the situation in the short term. | Posted on Wed 05/01/11 04:16 PM |
I wonder if parking in Fore Street could be rearranged by narrowing pavements and creating echelon parking. This would accommodate more cars, could allow for meters or some type of time measurement in the spaces, and would utilise the available space more effectively. | Posted on Wed 05/01/11 04:28 PM |
A bit late in responding, but better late than never I guess...
It seems absolutely mad that the car parks enforce a charge of 40p for the first hour and there is no charge for Fore Street - even with the yellow line restrictions. If free to Fore St then it should be free to the car parks for the first hour
We have a very busy Fore St - perhaps an accident waiting to happen - yet cars drivers will continue to take risks in order to park up for free instead of using our car parking resources. | Posted on Wed 25/05/11 07:43 PM |
Fore Street should be free for 20 or 30 minutes only. Quick in and out.
